Meet Agatha Stone

I’m super proud and excited that my book, The Lost Knight, Volume I will be released on May 24th! To celebrate, I’m giving you a sneak peek into the head and heart of my lead character, Agatha Stone. As a shy teenager, it was very difficult to get her to sit down for this, but here goes.

Q: You mention your foster parents, do you ever think about your natural mom and dad?

A(gatha): Umm…yeah. Who wouldn’t? But nobody really knows anything about them. I mean I used to ask Auntie about them, but she doesn’t know anything. They died when I was just a baby. I’d like to know if I look like them or if they painted or wrote songs and stuff. Or like what they did for a living? It hurts to think about them so I try not to.

Q: Why do you like purple so much? What does it represent to you?

A: Honestly, I dyed my hair purple because the dye itself is a weird shade of reddish-black that I thought would be good to use on this raven I’m painting on my ceiling. I only had enough money to buy either black paint or the dye. I chose the dye. I like the purple though. Especially, cause it’s dark. I don’t think I have a favorite color, maybe black or red. I like blue.

Q: If you could have any superpower in the world, what would it be and how would you use it?

A: I’m already pretty good at being invisible. I’d like to be the opposite of that. Is being seen a power? Maybe really loud. Although that wouldn’t be much of a power. Flying sounds hard. I don’t know. How about controlling time? Is that a power? If I had to choose I would like to travel in time or be able to stop time or do something with time.

Q: Who is your hero or someone you really look up to?

A: Okay this is going to sound weird, but Wonder Woman. I know, weird. But she’s stronger than Superman and smarter than Batman, but no one ever notices. I just want to loan her a shirt. I think if she stopped running around in her underwear people would listen to her or see her for something other than what they think she is. I know it’s weird that someone like me thinks they could help someone like her, but…

Q: How did you learn how to paint? Would you consider it your greatest talent? If not, what is?

A: I don’t know how I learned to paint. I guess I was just bored. It’s nice that Auntie never cares if I write on my walls. I guess it’s a talent. I never thought of it that way. It’s just something I do.

Q: What is one thing you wish people understood about you that you think they don’t?

That I have feelings. Maybe I am over sensitive or something. And I know that I’m not normal. But people seem to enjoy hurting me. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Maybe someday someone will explain it to me. I would like to have a friend.

Q: Do you have any favorite books or music that inspire you?

A: I like all music. I write stuff… in my head. I hear it…in my head. Hymns and operas and stuff. Almost every night if my window is…I mean every night I sing to myself. I like it. It relaxes me. I read all the time. I don’t think I could pick a favorite. Harry Potter, duh. What else? If you mean classics, probably Alice in Wonderland. I don’t know.

Q: What is your biggest insecurity?

A: Talking. I know that’s a weird one. But talking to people is so hard for me. I know I’ll say something stupid and they’ll laugh at me or something. And sometimes I have no idea what to say. I hate when that happens.

Q: Do you believe in magic?

A: Not really. I find magicians annoying. It’s like, why would you pay someone to lie to you. I don’t get it. I don’t like being tricked.

Q: If you had to leave your house in a hurry and knew you wouldn’t be back for awhile, which one item would you take with you?

A: What if it like burned down or something? That’s the only way Uncle would ever let us leave that place. I don’t know. I guess I’d make sure all the cats got out. I don’t have a lot of stuff. Maybe my brushes.
